Study on impurity hole plasmas by global neoclassical simulation

چکیده
An impurity hole observed in the Large Helical Device (LHD) is a hollow density profile of an ion species formed core plasma where negative (inward-pointing) ambipolar radial electric field ($E_r$) exists. Although local neoclassical models have predicted sign $E_r$ plasmas for entire minor radius, experimental measurement has shown that changes from to positive along radius. In present work, we investigate transport using global simulation code FORTEC-3D. The variation electrostatic potential on flux surface ($\Phi_1$) evaluated quasi-neutrality condition multi-ion-species by simulation. and fluxes are determined solving drift-kinetic equation including effect $\Phi_1$. By simulation, show which radius obtained as solution with such $E_r$, carbon can be outwardly directed even $E_r<0$ around magnetic axis. Furthermore, it found outward only factor 2-3 balancing modeled inward turbulent flux. Our result indicates moved one step closer reproducing kinetic

Neoclassical Transport in Enhanced Confinement Toroidal Plasmas
It has recently been reported that ion thermal transport levels in enhanced confinement tokamak plasmas have been observed to fall below the "irreducible minimum level" predicted by standard neoclassical theory. This apparent contradiction is resolved in the present analysis by relaxing the basic neoclassical assumption that the ions orbital excursions are much smaller than the local toroidal m...
متن کاملA Global Simulation Study of ICRF Heating by TASK/WM and GNET in Toroidal Plasmas
A global simulation code is developed to study the ICRF heating combining two global simulation codes: a full wave field solver, TASK/WM, and a drift kinetic equation solver, GNET. The both codes can treat a 3-D magnetic configuration based on the MHD equilibrium by VMEC code. The developed code is applied to the ICRF minority heating in a simple circular tokamak. The ICRF wave propagation is s...
متن کاملNumerical Simulation of Neoclassical Currents, Parallel Viscosity, and Radial Current Balance in Tokamak Plasmas
One of the principal problems en route to a fusion reactor is that of insufficient plasma confinement, which has lead to both theoretical and experimental research into transport processes in the parameter range relevant for fusion energy production. The neoclassical theory of tokamak transport is well-established unlike the theory of turbulence driven anomalous transport in which extensive pro...
متن کاملOn Impurity Handling in High Performance Stellarator/Heliotron Plasmas
The Large Helical Device (LHD) and Wendelstein 7-X (W7-X, under construction) are experiments specially designed to demonstrate long pulse (quasi steady-state) operation, which is an intrinsic property of Stellarators and Heliotrons. Significant progress was made in establishment of high performance plasmas. A crucial point is the increasing impurity confinement towards high density as observed...
متن کاملImpurity Transport in TCV: Neoclassical and Turbulent Contributions
Carbon impurity density profiles in TCV L-modes are studied in detail with respect to the role of sawtooth activity, of plasma current, of central ECH, of collisionality and of plasma shaping by comparing positive and negative triangularity. The carbon transport is compared to electron transport. It is shown that the carbon density profiles can have local normalized gradient much higher than th...
